Writing Prompts: Pictures of Places

07/04/2019

Continuing with the writing prompts, I am going to focus on a series of pictures which I hope you will find inspiring. My source is Pixabay, a wonderful website which offers an amazing range of photos, free to use, even for commercial use.

Today's image is by Dean Moriarty and the theme for today is 'Somewhere I have never travelled.'

To use the theme to inspire you:

  • study the image, and note the impressions you have of it.
  • What sort of a place is it?
  • Is this a 'real' country or an imaginary one with a door to another world?
  • What is it's purpose, is it like the OA's meeting place between worlds? Perhaps it is a place of worship, or a holiday home, or someone's home.
  • Is it morning or evening? or a world where those concepts don't exist?
  • What is the climate like?
  • Is this in the past, present or future?
  • Who might come here?
  • Is it a place you would like to visit? Why?
Once you've explored the location's possibilities, then you can start to think about Who, When, Where, Why and how your story unfolds.
